Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Recognise potential risk of falls.
  • Consult with supervisor and the person to ascertain lifestyle, health and mobility factors that might increase the risk of falls for the person.
  • Provide opportunities for the person and their family, carer or others identified by the person to contribute and ask questions.
  • Establish needs, issues and concerns of the person which are outside scope of own practice and refer to supervisor or health professional according to organisational policies and procedures.
  • Recognise physical indicators of risk of falls and document according to organisational policies and procedures.
  • Recognise environmental factors that may contribute to falls and document according to organisational policies and procedures.
  • Report risk of falls to supervisor or health professional according to organisational policies and procedures and in accordance with legal and ethical considerations.
  • Maintain the privacy and dignity of the person when reporting risk of falls.
  • Complete and store documentation and reports according to organisation policies and procedures and update according to changes in the person’s circumstances.

Assessment Tasks
